ENERGY PERFORMANCE OF BUILDINGS DIRECTIVE
AIR CONDITIONING INSPECTIONS
It is now mandatory for air conditioning systems, where the total individual or cumulative rated cooling output of all air conditioning systems in operation exceed 12kW to have 5 yearly periodic inspections. The requirement for air conditioning arises due to the implementation of the Energy Performance of Buildings (Certificates and Inspections) England and Wales) Regulations 2007.
The first phase of these regulations applies to systems with a rated cooling output greater than 250kW. Any air conditioning system greater than 250kW installed prior to 1st January 2008 should already have been inspected, whilst those installed on or after 1st January 2008 should be inspected within 5 years of installation.
The second phase of these regulations applies to systems with a rated cooling output greater than 12kW. Any air conditioning system greater than 12kW installed prior to 1st January 2008 should be inspected by no later than 4th January 2011, whilst those installed on or after 1st January 2008 should be inspected within 5 years of installation.
Air Conditioning Inspections required under the Regulations must be carried out by accredited air conditioning energy assessors.
